[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Recently, we made the difficult decision to postpone planned Outback Links volunteer placements, to reduce the risk of COVID-19 reaching the already-vulnerable communities in the bush.
This was a hard decision, as many of our remote communities were only just beginning to recover from recent bushfire and flood disasters. Many are still in drought. These communities – these people – need helping hands now more than ever. This has meant we are actively calling hundreds of people and checking in to see if they are OK. A simple phone call to stay connected means so much to those who were already feeling vulnerable. These are inspiring calls to inspiring people.
We are so grateful our Bush Chaplains are on hand, in their respective Remote Areas, continuing to provide a vital lifeline for people in the Outback. They are committed to reaching out and keeping people connected, while adhering to all physical distancing guidelines.
“Having some time to yourself can help with ‘inner peace’.”
We are investing time into growing and maintaining connections with people in remote communities. Our team is working hard and calling Aussie farmers. We checked in to see if they’re ok, and reminded them that we are still here for them.
Our farmers were happy to receive our calls and many have imparted some wisdom around coping with isolation. You see, for them, social isolation is commonplace. But many have told us that what helps to get them by is thinking about their families and friends, and reflecting on the things they are grateful for.
One of our farmers, Chris, said, “It’s a great time to catch up on things. There’s always something at home that needs to be done. Having some time to yourself can help with ‘inner peace’.”
“And since we have internet and phones, we never feel truly isolated.”
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and dedicated supporters who make our Outback Links and Bush Chaplaincy programs possible.
We are hoping that you can find some inner peace too.
