STAGING

Atherton, Queensland.

The Student Group Home is located at Atherton and is managed by two Student Group Home parents and is known as Audley House. Atherton rests on the Great Dividing Range south-west of Cairns in Far North Queensland.

The Student Group Home has a large play area, barbeque facilities and leafy surrounds. Students attending Atherton Student Group Home come from wide ranging areas in the North, however the main areas where families are drawn from continue to be Normanton, Karumba, Georgetown, Bamaga and Cooktown. The home began in 1985 after Frontier Services found that there was a significant need for student accommodation in remote parts of the State. It was the first of Frontier Services’ group homes.

It is designed to be a home away from home, in easy reach of schools and the town centre and can accommodate up to 10 young people. Most are secondary, although some are primary aged children. The Houseparents help students with homework, transport them to and from recreational and school activities where appropriate and attend to health needs when they arise.
